The star has donated the full amount of his £25,000 award prize money to the MVT, which functions to preserve the UK's grassroots music venues.

Fender was awarded the award on 16 October as his third album People Watching was declared the top album of the previous year.

The musician has opted to donate the funds to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the crucial part local spots played in his initial steps.

"I would not have achieved this success if it wasn't for all the gigs I did around the North East, and beyond, when I was starting out," said Fender. "These locations are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, at least 150 of these locations have ceased operations – approximately 16 percent of the entire UK sector.

In the last year, top acts including Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the trust in its efforts to support the industry, by adding a small levy to their ticket prices, which benefits local stages.

Sam Fender also joined in, raising in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to support numerous local spots across the UK.

The money helped venues that were facing possible closure due to issues stemming from flooding, fires and personal losses, as well as permit problems, court cases and sound issues.

Other venues were granted funding support in modernizing amenities and gear that directly benefitted musicians and fans.

"The concept that revenue from performances in big venues supports the local stages, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has said.

Fender is among several artists to donate his award prize money to worthy causes.

Back when Pulp earned the prize in the year 1996 for their album their work, frontman Cocker declared that the band would donate their prize money to the organization the charity.

That year, musician Ms Dynamite shared her prize across a few organizations, such as the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"And I gave a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics class, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they required updated gear," the artist explained to outlets.

Two years ago, Ezra Collective gave their prize money to the local youth club that supported their group, in addition to other local music groups.

Additionally winners that year they donated their prize to a multiple sclerosis charity after a friend was identified with the disease.

"Winning was sufficient," said vocalist Small. "The money was the extra but we could do without the cherry, because we had the main prize. So our victory touched the lives of others."

In the past week, the Music Venues Trust shared it had saved a couple of local spots in south-east England, by placing them under public stewardship.

The Joiners in that area and the other in Bristol were acquired under the public acquisition program, which is funded by a national body and supporters who buy "ownership units" in the buildings.
